ok. so that wasn't my last post. screw it. i don't know when my last post is. but blogging should be at a lower rate by next week when i attempt to be a nerd.
i just had to blog about today.
lets not talk about the dsta camp. don't get me started.
in the end i went for the ballet with zhirong. thats 2 days in a row i've went out with him, and i've not regretting hanging out with him. he's quite a character. its quite funny to be around him, but pleasant at the same time.
the ballet was awesome. some of them were kids. and they were already so good. today has opened my eyes to more about what dancing really is. i used to think dancing was just random movements of the body that somehow piece together to form a 'dance'.
today, i realised its much more than just that. dancing requires much flexibility of the body, excellent co-ordination, along with the physical and mental exertion. expecially for the ballerinas. i really admire ballerinas. so much pain they have to go through just to do what they are good at. they dance for hours on end, per day, just to ensure the smooth precision of every step. learning the moves itself would also be mentally tiring. putting it all together, now that takes skill - something none of the ballerinas lacked. they made something so difficult seem simply. the gracefulness they possessed, the poise and the way they carried themselves across from one end of the stage to the other - absolutely amazing. if it were me i probably would've given up a long time ago. i realised that ballet is really demanding on the ballerina and they have to go through so much just for 1 perfomance.
and silvia was GREAT by the way. i dare say she was the best among them. great job =p the ticket prices were under-priced. the performance was really THAT good.
anyway i think ballet can relate to a few things in life. things such as professional music (i'm talking about musicians who play maybe the piano or the violin or those. rock music really doesn't count.) require such quantities of effort. i've heard somewhere before that professional musicians can spend hours a day just playing on the piano non-stop. and thats just for the period where they're learning the song. then when they start practicing and fine-tuning their expression for the song, it gets more intense. and some songs may also be especially long, i'm not sure how long though. but pretty long, thats for sure.
long hours of preparation, long periods of pure concentration and effort, frustration and anger may kick in at times. but what is it that keeps these people doing what they are?
determination. thats right. the will to carry on. keep trying until you get it perfectly right. now thats what drives people to do something so difficult.
in life, where can you go without determination? not far, at least. in life, i guess only the strong-willed people will survive. because they'll be the ones who last the longest. the ones who carry on, after everyone has discontinued. determination is trying harder when everyone else has giving up. running an extra mile when others stop a mile short of the finishing line. thats what determination is about. not giving up. sometimes going the extra mile to make sure things get done the way it should. ensuring everything carries on with clockwork precision.
this is a real-life case which i witnessed.
there was this time that a group of people were asked to solve a problem. some people in the group, even before trying, gave up. it was a logic problem by the way. others, after trying a few times, gave up. finally there was only 1 person who kept trying and trying. the sloppiest person in class. sort of. a slacker (although its wrong for me to judge). he was someone who never even bothered completing his tests and assignments because he never put in any effort and saw no point in doing so. but anyway. he seemed the most unlikely person to solve it. he probably knew that himself. but yet he carried on. the class just continued to stare at him working slowly at the problem. eventually, he held the paper up and stared at it. he had solved it. yes. the slacker. something even the class genius couldn't solve. so it all comes down to this. determination. don't give up. you never know what you may achieve if you keep trying.
i will be determined. i will carry on.
and when i grow up, i'll marry a ballerina.
